When it comes to being a Putaface, the top prize winner for 2009 has to be the Poker Face singer Lady Gaga. This singer / songwriter, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in New York, has taken the concept of looking famous to a whole new level. her debut album, The Fame, is all about getting famous, or at least acting like you are famous. She has certainly done that.

Lady Gaga is best known at this point not so much for her music but for her wild costumes, which she wears even off stage. Recently she did an interview in an outfit made up of nothing but Kermit The Frog dolls. Other times she wears barely there catsuits, walks around wearing gstring outfits and no pants, etc. Her past career as a stripper has apparently made it easier for this girl to walk around with her parts hanging out, and the press is eating it up. She is also a darling for Celeb basher Perez Hilton, who seems to think he discovered her. For some people, there is a feeling that her 15 minutes of fame is up, the next album will decide that completely!

When a performer is known by a single name, you know they have made it in to the pure putaface limelight. Beyonce Knowles first came to public attention as part of the mega selling girl group Destiny’s Child, where her good voice and very sexy looks were quickly noticed. Her first solo record scored 5 grammy awards and a number of singles. She has starred in movies, made a number of albums, and is a well known celeb. In part, her fame comes from her very curvy body and her willingness to show off her curves very publicly. While she hasn’t been caught in any embarrassing shots, she has certainly not shied away from the camera lenses either, using the paps to further her career. She recently married rapper Jay-z, so maybe her putaface ways will change.

Taylor Swift has moved quickly from quirky teen that few outside of Nashville knew about to a total phenom in less than a couple of years. This 19 year singer and songwriter has done impressive things in the last two years, including releasing a couple of top selling albums, getting nominated for Grammy Awards, winning the breakthrough video of the year award, and Swift’s songwriting peers at the Nashville Songwriters Association International honored her with their Songwriter/Artist of the Year Award. Her relationship to Joe Jonas (of the Disney Jonas Brothers fame) and some key appearances in Disney production (current and future) have also helped to raise her profile. Her music, while considered country, is certainly showing strong cross over appeal. It also helps that Taylor Swift is a very photogenic teen, and she knows how to work all the media, with myspace and other mediums being used to promote her and her music. Some girls have to learn how to be a putaface, others come about it all so naturally you would think they were born to it. Lily Allen is one of those girls who just has it all figured out, and knows exactly how to play the media like a fiddle.

Walk around with your boobs hanging out? Check! Go shopping in public wearing really weird outfits and even weirder hats? Check! Get totally sloshed on another celebs boat and run around topless? Check! Bad mouth every other performer and putaface? Check! Do cover songs of the people you bad mouth? Check and check!

While she has a reasonable career in music (mostly in the UK) it has been her public no-nos and paparazzi pleasing flashing and weirdness that have really raised her to the top of public awareness, and has given this girl a special place above and beyond most of the Paris Hilton wannabes.

Britney Spears is the proof that a true Putaface is a natural thing, a deep down desire to show off and get your picture taken, no matter what the circumstances. This girl has always known how to seduce the camera, from starting out as a tween on the Mickey Mouse Club to driving around Los Angeles spaced out on whatever and wearing see thru tops, she has done it all in order to get herself noticed. Her naughty schoolgirl look as a wild 16 year old in her video Hit Me Baby One More Time launched her into the sphere of major stardom, and her well chronicled marriage, repeat pregancies, divorce, and mental vacation have all been well documented, often with pictures that I am sure his putaface would wish would disappear. Her new album called Circus is pretty much a reflection of her wild last couple of years, and it’s nice to see her back to her smoking hot putaface self.

Being a Putaface isn’t reserved just for adults these days. Many of the younger stars, especially the girls coming out of the Disney camp, have learned how to seduce the camera with a single look. High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens learned how to do it, and Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana, has done the same.

Overall, this girl is a true putaface and will likely turn up the heat even more when she turns 18.

Rihanna is a hot looking 20 year old singer originally from Barbados that has been turning the music world on it’s ear.  As a 17 year old in 2005, she released her first album.  Now on her third album, she has ripped the charts up with 10 top 40 hits and more than a couple of number 1 songs.

She has also learned the miracle of being a putaface.  This girl knows how to seduce the camera, and her very unique good looks have made her a real favorite all around.

Mel B is best known either as part of the Spice Girls or as the babymomma for Eddie Murphy’s (apparently unwanted) child.  But Mel B has shown that, unlike some of her former bandmates, that she can bust out on her own and make things work out.  She has become the feature / spokemodel / rack for Ultimo lingerie, and is moving forward with music projects and other ideas.  She also was part of the most recent Dancing With the Stars in the US, and did really well and really bolstered her image and profile with a much larger audience.

Alanis Morisette has had more looks than a Tara Reids boobs during the famous red carpet incident.  Starting off as a permed disco singer, this Canadian girl has gone through a number of looks including Pseudo grunde and  sweet girl next door.
